This page provides links to the full text of all Acts of the Scottish Parliament as they were originally enacted. Note: No updates to the text have been made once it has been published. Users should therefore verify for themselves whether legislation is in force or whether it has been amended or repealed by later legislation. All commencement orders bringing into force parts of an Act and Regulations (including amendments and repeals) are published on this website as Statutory Instruments.
All Acts of the Scottish Parliament which result from Bills introduced into the Parliament by the Scottish Ministers (except for Acts which result from Budget Bills), will be accompanied by Explanatory Notes. The text of the Explanatory Notes will be produced by the Scottish Government Department responsible for the subject matter of the Act. The purpose of these Explanatory Notes is to make the Act accessible to readers who are not legally qualified and who have no specialised knowledge of the matters dealt with. They are intended to allow the reader to grasp what the Act sets out to achieve and place its effect in context.
The aim is that the Explanatory Notes should be published on the Internet at the same time as the Act but this might not always be possible and may follow some days after the publication of the Act on this site.
